Shop Resale or Consignment March 2009:

read the March 2008 Story

When you shop at your local resale/consignment shop, everyone wins. And you, the customer, will be the biggest winner of all...

Why shop consignment?
The real question is "Why NOT shop consignment?" Consignment shops offer a variety of benefits over traditional retail stores, such as:

Value
Consignment shopping provides a greater price-to-product ratio than any other form of retail. Typically, an item that would normally sell for $150.00, at a traditional retail store, will be priced at $50.00 or less in a consignment shop. And, just as with any store, you will usually find items on sale. Many consignment shops reduce the price of items each month. It is not uncommon to find savings of 70%, 80% or even 90% off the original retail price. Consignment shoppers are often the best dressed, because they can afford to be.

Service
Most consignment shops provide a warm, friendly atmosphere that can't be duplicated in a department store. Personal service and attention to the needs of customers are the norm, rather than the exception. Looking for something in particular? Trying to match that light green blouse? You'll find someone ready and willing to assist you. And, when you're getting ready for that special occassion; trying to find just the right look; consignment shop owners can be a god-send. As part of their job, they constantly keep in touch with what's in style, learn tricks on how best to accessorize an outfit, and develop an eye for what looks good.

Convenience
Consignment shops are usually located near residential areas in small shopping centers or sometimes even houses. Rather than searching for a parking place at your local mega-mall and then hiking to the stores, you can usually drive right up to the front door and find parking without any problem. You can spend more time shopping and less time running around.

Selection
The variety of clothing you can find at a consignment shop far exceeds that of any traditional retail store. Retail stores typically carry their own name brands or a selection of brands that the buyer believes will sell. Furthermore, they will carry what is currently "in fashion" if the colors of the season or style of clothing do not happen to suit you, you're out of luck. Consignment shops, on the other hand, carry a nearly infinite variety of styles, designers, colors, fabrics, etc., depending on what their consignors bring in. The selection is constantly changing and you will always find something new.

Recycling
Resale is possibly the oldest form of recycling known to man. Dealers have been selling used merchandise since ancient times. I'm sure there was probably a market for tankards with Julius Caesar's likeness engraved on the side, well into Nero's reign. Today, recycling is more important than ever and consignment shops help in this effort by recycling millions of garments every year. (Written with permission from Gypsy Trader Consignment Boutique)

Consignments Made Easy
Located just off I-80 at exit 432 in the Nebraska Crossing Outlet Mall you'll find Consignments Made Easy. When you shop or consign at this unique consignment store you won't have your typical consignment store experience. While shopping, you can literally find everything you need from toys and clothes for your children to clothes for yourself and even the kitchen sink. When consigning, you'll find that it's the easiest and least time consuming experience you've ever had. "We know that in today's economy your dollar has to stretch further than ever before and your time is equally at a premium. People don't have the time to get everything ready and have a garage sale and on the other hand people don't have the time to run from garage sale to garage sale hoping to find everything their family needs. We bring everyone together under one roof. Our consignors set their prices and we tag everything and organize it on our sales floor" said owner Keri Engelhaupt. Munchkin Junction
The Munchkin Junction Consignment sale can help you get all you need for your growing children this spring without spending a bundle. Munchkin Junction is a semi-annual children’s consignment sale for the Elkhorn and West Omaha area. Created by moms for moms, we strive to create a fun environment to shop and sell barely used, high quality items for newborn babies to teens. Even the mom-to-be will be ecstatic with the staggering selection of maternity items. As moms we know firsthand how exasperating and time consuming it can be to find items on clearance racks or finding the right garage sales to stay within budget. Munchkin Junction is a splendid alternative. With an enormous variety, it is designed to be a one stop shop. From newborns to teens and everything in-between the selection is everything imaginable: name brand clothing, toys, strollers, furniture, cribs, books, bedding, maternity and so much more. Munchkin Junction gives a large portion of their proceeds to Bethany Lutheran Church and ensures that any of the donated items are given to both local and international charities that benefit children. Visit our website for more details: www.munchkinjunctionsale.com or give us a call at 402-690-1481. Our spring sale is March 18-21, this is a sale you won’t want to miss!

Take 2

Take2 has become one of Omaha’s fastest growing consignment sale events. They are acknowledged as an innovator and leader in consignment sale events of children’s, teens and maternity clothing and items. The Omaha spring and summer sale event is scheduled for April 18-21 at the Village Shopping Center, one block north of 90th & Maple.

Take2 features new, like-new and gently used items. Take2 brings together buyers and sellers of children’s clothing, shoes, furniture, car seats, high chairs, bedding, books, toys, name brand teen clothing, maternity clothing and items (just to name a few) for a 4 day extravaganza.

Take2 has designed and built a software system coupled with a web site (Take2.com ) that allows consignors to sign up quickly and easily “online” and immediately print their custom bar-coded tags. Consignors can print extra tags as their “bar-coded consignor number” remains theirs for each successive sale event. This allows them to prepare items in the off season in preparation of the next sale event.

Sale events are held twice a year in 3 cities and Take2 is the only consignment sale event that allows consignors the ability to sell their items in multiple cities: items unsold in the Omaha sale will have a second third chance the sell in Lincoln and Des Moines, for example, if the consignor opts to do so.

Perhaps one of the most valuable features of Take2 is its commitment to helping local and national charities. Consignors can opt to donate any unsold items to charities. Consignors can opt to donate any unsold items to charities that help mothers and children without the means to purchase necessary items for their children. Take2 proudly supports various charities in Omaha, Lincoln, and Des Moines, including but not limited to Open Door Mission, AAA Pregnancy Counseling Center, Lincoln Crisis Pregnancy Center, YWCA, Nebraska Foster Kids Closet and the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation (www.parseghian.org) which funds research for children inflicted with Neiman-Pick Type C Disease.
