Fall Festivals and Halloween Fun

Amazing Pizza Machine
It’s so amazing, it’s scary! The Amazing Pizza Machine will host a Halloween event, "3 Spooky Nights," from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Sunday, October 28 and 11 a.m. -10 p.m. on Monday, October 29 and Tuesday, October 30. Kids in costume get bonus PlayPoints* and special treats all day long. Late October means chilly temps -- The Amazing Pizza Machine is the perfect place to enjoy a Halloween activity that is both warm and safe for your little trick-or-treaters.

The buffet features 100+ items, including pizza, pasta, salad and dessert bars and more. Four themed dining rooms offer big screen televisions showing sporting events, movies and cartoons. More than 140 games and 10 amusement-park-like rides and attractions mean there is something here for everyone.

Buffet prices: Adults, $8.99 evenings/weekends, $6.99 lunch Monday through Friday; children ages 3-7, $4.29; children ages 8-12, $5.29. The unlimited assorted drink price is $1.19 for kids, $1.69 for adults.

Bellevue Berry and Pumpkin Ranch
Fun for the entire family! In addition to thousands of pumpkins, the ranch's Fall Harvest in October offers attractions such as the Haunted Hayrack Ride, "How the West Was Fun" Activity Barn, Lewis & Clark Keel Boat, Sand Pit and Trike Track, the Lost Gold Mine, Ranch of Terror Haunted Barn and Buried Cave, the Old West Frontier Town Walking Tour, Ranch Animal Corral, and the Harvest Barn and Hungry Moose Cafe. The Ranch of Terror brings a whole new experience of fear! Newly added is the ghost town walk, and thirty minutes of heart pounding screams in the haunted house! The facility also offers planned events, group outings, and school tours with an educational focus.

Each October, pre-school and school age kids visit the Great Pumpkin Round-up at the Bellevue Berry & Pumpkin for educational, outdoor fun. If you are looking for an activity that's matched to the bustling energy your group has, this is it! Children have the opportunity to experience hands-on pumpkin farming! Big Red Barn and Pumpkin Farm
Located at 132nd and Bennington Road. Two levels of crafts and antiques in the barn with over 20 crafters and vendors. On the lower level you'll find Fall items and upstairs is a Christmas wonderland. Huge variety of animals from our 2,000 lb Shire horse, Abigail to our 2 month old ostrich pair, Thelma and Louise. Playground for the kids has a 6 x 6 seed corn pool to swim in. A giant straw maze. Giant slingshot, make a bullseye, win a prize. Bluegrass music is piped throughout the property with live bluegrass musicians on certain days. Food is available. Everything from hot dog combos to fresh home-made buffalo Joe's and jerky from our local neighborhood buffalo farm. Of course, pumpkin butter, apple butter, jellies, salsas, honey, pies, apple this and that. Enjoy a cup of local apple cider by the roaring bonfire or any of our campfire sites.

Grandparents day is Sunday, October 7th. Grandparents are 1/2 price admission. The car corral is open Saturday, October 13th. Anyone who brings their classic car or hotrod gets free admission and great door prizes!  Sunday, October 14th is the Gladiator hockey leagues annual fundraiser with extra special pricing and events thru-out the day.

Sunday, Oct 21, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Project Night Lights. Sunday, Oct 28th is our costume contest, carved pumpkin contest and scarecrow contest.

Lauritzen Gardens Autumn Ambience Festival
Lauritzen Gardens' fourth annual Autumn Ambience Festival will be held October 6 and 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Autumn Ambience is a celebration of the harvest and will demonstrate many ways to reap the rewards of the gardening season.

The festival will feature antique tractors on display throughout the garden and an antique tractor parade at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The festival will also include hands-on children's activities, scarecrow making, live music, free herb corsages from the Omaha Herb Society, a bake sale and cozy garden strolls. Hayrack rides will also be offered near the children's garden, and special café food will be available including soups, sandwiches and desserts.

Live entertainment includes country band, Shaky Ground and line-dancing group, Country Kickers. Performances will be held on the festival garden terrace. 

Admission both days of Autumn Ambience will be $7 for adults and $3 for children age six to 12. Members and children under age six receive free admission. The event will be held rain or shine, and free parking will be available. Mangelsen’s Witches Tea
Calling all ghouls and boys! You’re invited to attend the 30th annual Witches Tea on Saturday October 13th from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. A magic show is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. The costume contest starts at 1:00 p.m. No pre-registration required. All activities are free!

Omaha Children’s Museum
Kids can have fun and be safe this Halloween at the Omaha Children’s Museum. Cobweb Castle: The Not-So-Scary Haunted House and Trick-or-Treat Nights are appearing during the month of October.

The not so spooky, not so creepy, not so scary haunted house returns to Omaha Children’s Museum from October 2-31. Cobweb Castle is suitable for young visitors. It has become one of the museum's most popular activities annually attracting over 20,000 visitors.

Kids will have an opportunity to travel through the maze of the Ghostly Graveyard, wind around creepy looking trees in the Find-Your-Way Forest and explore the castle’s Pirates Parlor, Kooky Kitchen, Casper's Closet and Vampire’s Batty Bedroom.

"Parents are looking for safe, fun activities around Halloween," said Tom Simons, Omaha Children's Museum director of education and public programming. "Cobweb Castle lets kids enjoy a little fright while not being terrified."

Kids can show off their costumes and get goodies before the big night. Trick-or-Treat Nights are held on Thursdays, October 18 and 25 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Kids can visit stations around the museum to collect tasty and healthy treats like cheddar cracker snacks, fruit strips, organic lollipops, cereal bars, all-natural cookies and more, provided by Whole Foods Market.

Spooktacular
Grab your little goblins and have a terrorific Halloween celebration! Load up your bags with lots of tricks and treats. Take a spooky ride on the terror train and create your own creepy craft to take home. Join us for this Spooktacular Day.

Spooktacular is free with Zoo admission or Omaha Zoo membership. Sunday, October 28 from 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.


Treat Street
Candy, costumes, tricks and treats! Mid-America Center and Kidz Explore are proud to present the fifth annual Treat Street Saturday, October 27th.

This Halloween trick-or-treating option offers children of all ages a new and fun way to load up on treats in a safe indoor environment. This year the entire Mid-America Center, including the arena, will be transformed into a Halloween wonderland with a neighborhood to trick or treat, magical theme areas, candy, costumes, games, live shows, music and more!

Treat Street is even bigger and sweeter this year with three themed areas including the Princess Palace, Islands of the Lost, and the Mystery Mansion! Don’t forget to sign up for the costume contest! Spook-tastic Prizes will be awarded for the winner of each of the 3 costume contests – ages 1 through 6 years, 7 to 13 years and 14 and up! And don’t forget to step right up for the most fun-filled, thrill-packed rides on Treat Street! Watch kids delight in classics such as the Ferris Wheel, Merry Go Round and the Train, as well as more adventurous fare like the Super Jet Roller and the Hustler.

But the highlight of the event is still the actual "Treat Street." Custom made spooky houses line Treat Street where kids receive treats, trinkets and toys given from costumed characters greeting them at the door of their eerie houses.

Vala’s Pumpkin Patch
When people in the Omaha area hear the name VALA'S PUMPKIN PATCH, they immediately conjure up images of pumpkin fields full of bright orange pumpkins, hay rack rides, and grilling hot dogs.

Vala's has lots of fun activities for everyone! The Lost Pumpkin Mine and Tumbling Rock Cavern is a walk-through cave featuring the antics of many ornery miners! The "Pigtucky Derby" race is one of the more amusing activities on the farm. Visitors gather around and clamor for a spot to watch barnyard animals race to the finish. The races last about 20 minutes, and are held once per hour.

Vala's features a tractor-pulled hayrack ride out to the pumpkin fields where visitors can pick their own pumpkins. The hayrack ride lasts about 30 minutes. Selections of barbecue, roasted turkey legs, succotash, caramel apples and much more are available to keep stomachs full during the busy day. Campfire sites may even be reserved for families to have their own picnic with catered Vala entrees, or they can bring their own hot dogs to roast.

Vala's is located at 12102 S. 180th St. in Gretna (a mile south of Highway 370 on 180th St.). Vala's is open through Oct. 31.
