The 2008 National Wheelchair Softball Championship
The 2008 National Wheelchair Softball Championship Tournament will feature twenty adult and six youth teams competing for national championship titles of wheelchair softball. Approximately 350 wheelchair athletes will compete in over 60 games on Thursday through Saturday, Aug 7-9, from 8am – 6pm daily on the parking lots of the Mid-America Center. The Nebraska Barons, three time and defending national champions, will be the host team for this exciting and fast paced event. Better Living Fest 2008
Information and resource fair for seniors, their family caregivers and baby boomers with fun and activities for kids of all ages. At this year’s event, Better Living Fest will highlight how “Better Living” has evolved over the years and where it may extend in the future. There is no charge to get into the festival, but attendees are encouraged to bring an item to donate to the Food Bank, which will be used to help families in southwest Iowa experience “Better Living”. Smokey Joe's Cafe Musical Revue
Children’s Respite Care Center Sponsors Smokey Joe’s Café Musical Revue for Annual Fundraiser. The opening night patron gala will begin with cocktails at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., patrons will enjoy a performance that serves the spirit and style of Leiber and Stoller – creators of some of the most powerful and recognizable early icons of rock ‘n’ roll and rhythm and blues music. Two hundred attendees are expected, and tickets sell for $250 each. On Aug. 22, attendees are expected for a performance-only night, and tickets sell for $37.50 each. The goal of the benefit is to raise a minimum of $40,000 that would help to support requests from the CRCC Scholarship Program. Tickets can be purchased by calling 895-4000.
