Canned Drive for A Dive!

DiVentures Scuba and Swim Center is hosting their second annual Canned Drive for a Dive. The food drive runs through Wednesday, November 23, and all items collected go to the Food Bank of the Heartland. Drop off any canned food item and receive a raffle ticket toward a prize package from DiVentures. The winners will be selected on Friday, November 25. • Package #1: Two months of swim lessons and a DiVentures Swim School t-shirt • Package #2: One Open Water Diver certification course • Package #3: One specialty scuba course and a DiVentures t-shirt DiVentures raised 426 lbs of food and hopes to top that this year. DiVentures is located on 120th and I Street. Donations will be accepted during their normal business hours. Hunger Facts: • About 21,900 different people in Food Bank for the Heartland’s service area receive emergency food assistance in any given week. • The Food Bank distributed 9,000,588 pounds of food in 2010 — a 37 percent increase from 2009. • 15.9 percent of Nebraskans reported at least one time in the past 12 months when they did not have enough money to buy food that they or their family needed. • 52 percent of clients served by Food Bank for the Heartland report having to choose between paying for food and utilities.
